Paper-based test
The IELTS paper-based test uses pen and paper for all sections - Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking. The Speaking test is carried out in person with an examiner. The test is administered by trained test staff and IELTS examiners.
Test format
IELTS comprises of four modules: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking, with a total test duration of 2 hours and 45 minutes.
The Listening, Reading, and Writing tests are completed in one sitting. The Speaking test can take place on the same day or within a seven-day window before or after the other tests. Upon application, you will receive information about the scheduled time for your speaking interview.
